And More!

Additional Projects & Skills

Being a full-time writer, editor, and word nerd means that I do a lot of work with words–so much work that it can’t all be included in a nice, compact online portfolio. Below are just some of the things I have been hired to do, helped out with, or pursued in my personal life that encompass further skills in writing, editing, and word nerding.

Resumes & Cover Letters

Charlie Doe is a professional with years of experience under their belt looking to make a move within their own industry. They sent me links to their professional profiles and I compiled all the information into a single page document.

Riley Doe is about to graduate and looking to secure their first position in the field. I worked quite closely with them to create a skills-based resume that highlights their potential as well as a cover letter to showcase how their academic and personal experiences translate over to the working world. (They got the job!)

UX Writing

As a sampling of various different types of UX writing I produce, I completed the Daily UX Writing Challenge.

The Daily UX Writing Challenge sends a new UX writing prompt to your inbox every weekday for two weeks with a scenario, a challenge, and character constraints. In 10 minutes or less, you must complete the challenge.

Once I finished the challenge, I created graphics to showcase the brief I was given and all the elements of my response, including headers, messages, and/or buttons.

Sci-Fi & Fantasy Fiction

In addition to my roles as a writer, editor, and word nerd, I am also a speculative fiction author under the pen name Catherine Tavares.

On the technical side, I work with several word processing programs, including MS Word, Google Docs, and Scrivener. I also manage my own WordPress website and social media accounts.

On the creative side, it is my job to produce an original and unique story for publication with anywhere from no guidance to a multi-page brief, submit that story in accordance with individual standards of formatting, persevere through many rejections before finally achieving publication, and then do it all over again (or simultaneously) with another original and unique story.

Emails, Emails, & More Emails

Sending a progress report to the boss? Exchanging information with a client? Cold-emailing a potential customer? Breaking up with a vendor? I’ve got you.

Emails may seem like innocuous daily tidbits of life, but they hold a lot of sway in the professional world to secure new customers, maintain old ones, and generally keep everyone informed and happy. If done right, they may even be able to replace a meeting or two.

I help clients compose and edit professional emails for clients/customers, co-workers, management, and companies.
